Convert between Degree, Radian, Gradian with this angle converter tool.
In planar geometry, an angle is the figure formed by two rays, called the sides of the angle, sharing a common endpoint, called the vertex of the angle. Angles are also formed by the intersection of two planes. These are called dihedral angles.
Angle Units Explained
- Degree (°): A measurement of a plane angle in which one full rotation is 360 degrees.
- Radian (rad): The standard unit of angular measure, used in many areas of mathematics. An angle’s measurement in radians is numerically equal to the length of a corresponding arc of a unit circle. One turn is equal to 2π radians.
- Gradian (grad): Also known as the gon, is a unit of plane angle, equal to 1/400 of a full turn. One degree is 10/9 gradians.
Fun Fact: Why 360 degrees? It’s believed this system comes from the ancient Babylonians, who used a base-60 number system (sexagesimal). 360 is highly composite (divisible by many numbers), making it very convenient for calculations.
